Andrew Sullivan explains why he ain't for Rudy

CartoonandrewI love reading Andrew Sullivan's appraisals of the '08 presidential candidates.  Sullivan is profoundly fed up with the Republican party in general and President Bush in particular.  He still considers himself a conservative, but doesn't seem to be impressed with any of the presidential hopefuls his once-favored party has to offer, including Rudy Giuliani.

Here's what he wrote today on his blog, The Daily Dish:

"I was and remain a big fan of Giuliani as mayor of NYC. I'm not denying the flaws and the nuttiness and the polarization. But anyone who denies the transformation of NYC in his tenure is missing an important moment in urban America. I would have gladly supported him every time he ran. But being mayor in NYC, which means being a flaming asshole and occasional authoritarian are not the skills we need in the presidency right now. He's a hothead and downright dangerous in the White House - both to global stability and to the Constitution. The Conventional wisdom is that any president after Bush will gain a huge boost from world opinion. The only candidate for whom that would not apply, I think, is Giuliani. His diplomatic skills are worse than Cheney's. He cannot even reach non-white New Yorkers, let along the global Muslim opinion we need to win over."

Story of Day: Political Psychology

I-Mess and the '08 Race

The '08 candidates are weighing in on the controversy surrounding Don Imus.  Here's what some of them have said.

Obama the money mama

Senator Obama raised 25 million dollars the first three months of this year.  Senator Clinton 26 million.  So why are the political pulse takers more impressed by Obama's millions?

"You Soup" 1

A new feature this time... I'm calling it "You Soup".  I've picked my top five campaign-related videos of the week off of You Tube for this posting.  Check 'em out.  And please let me know if you like this feature, or have any You Tube recommendations for me.  Thanks!

March Madness

March 31st is the deadline for the presidential hopefuls to file with Federal Elections Commission the campaign contributions they've received so far in '07.  A few weeks later we find out what's in their wallet -- who's got the financial muscle at the moment.  You know the old saying, "it takes money to make money".  So true in the Amazing '08 Race.

Hillary's favorite dress and the Gore Guessing Game

Will he or won't he run?  Fans of Al Gore are holding out hope, especially after his Capitol Hill testimony this week.  Based on what I've read, I don't think it's going to happen.  Find out why in my posting.
Also, it seems that Senator Hillary Clinton has a favorite campaign dress.  I've spotted her in it (on video) on three separate days the past few weeks.  Just being observant...

Condom Sense and Think Obama

More to report on in the Amazing '08 Race.  Senator John McCain was shaky at the wheel answering questions about AIDS and condoms on board the Straight Talk Express.  Meanwhile, Senator Hillary Clinton is mocked in a new Youtube ad (a spoof of a 1984 ad for Apple computers) supporting Senator Obama. The message in it is clear: political cliches are out.  Authenticity is in.  Better get on board.

Hillary in hot water with the gays...

I know it has been a week since I last posted, but I'm back, and plan to make my updates highly frequent from here on out.  So please keep checking back.  This posting is about how Senator Hillary Clinton responded to General Peter Pace calling homosexuality immoral. It's one of the most touchy subjects for politicians -- their answer, whatever it might be, sure it anger some voters.  Clinton ended up having to issue two apologies this week to the gay community.

In this posting I talk about Clinton and Obama.  If you want to know about what the Republicans had to say on the subject, check out this article from Politico:  Republicans Dodge Homosexuality Question.

The Amazing '08 Race

In this posting, I cover this week's hot topics in the '08 presidential race as a mock-episode of the reality show "The Amazing Race".  Let's hope I don't get a cease-and-desist letter from CBS.
