Jason Bellini's Here and Now

In our lifetime: global melting

It's not a catastrophy waiting to happen in our children or children's children's lifetime.  See for yourself, in this CBS News story, how our world is changing rapidly, profoundly, and at this very moment.

Correspondent Mark Philips saves his best line for the end:

"The five countries that border the arctic, including the US, are in an ironic race... to exploit the petroleum reserves now becoming available because of the climate change the use of petroleum has helped cause."

Our world needs a reveolutionary technological breakthrough, which breaks our reliance on carbon fuels.  Will man, will America, rise to the occasion?

Year 2050 Project: Senator Craig's Choice

In this posting from the road... I'm San Diego... I offer myself some thoughts on Senator Larry Craig, who plead guilty earlier this summer to to "disorderly conduct."  He was arrested after peering into an undercover officer's bathroom stall at an airport, and making gestures indicating he wanted to engage in lewd conduct.  As part of my 2050 Project, I try to explain the significance of this to the me who may watch this in the year 2050.  I forgot to load my fun little 2050 Project graphic onto this computer, but it'll be there next time.

Oh I'm at the NLGJA national convention in San Diego.  Stay tuned for a vlog about it.

From Cheney to Blitzer to Stewart to Me

I know you might have already seen the video of CNN's Wolf Blitzer asking VP Dick Cheney about his lesbian daughter's pregnancy.  Here's Jon Stewart's take on it, and a comparison to how the comfort level with such issues appears to be different among leaders across the pond.

Is Gore the Dem's hot ticket?

Up with another Vlog posting.  This one is about global warming and Al Gore.  Rolling Stone this month asks whether the time might be right for the Dem's to pick Gore as their '08 candidate.  Last week was also a big week for news relating to global warming.  I decided  do a posting that looks at both Gore's presidential prospects , and the environment becoming a  "hot topic".  Ha!  Wait, that's not really funny...

Live from Sundance!

While at the famed film festival, I watched a lot of films. One of them, called For the Bible Tell Me So, portrays various families - some famous, some not - who must reconcile their Christian faith with the homosexuality of someone in their family. I interviewed Dick Gephardt and his openly gay daughter Chrissy Gephardt to talk about their role in the film. I also asked them how their family dealt with Chrissy coming out and how they see gay rights going forward with the '08 Elections.

Talkin' Gossip

Why do gays love gossip? In my second installment of Here and Now, I get some answers gabbin' with the best of 'em: Joan Rivers,  Perez Hilton, and Michael Musto!

On the Passing of President Gerald Ford

...On the life of Gerald Ford, his ties to the gay community, and his support for gay rights.
