Brokeback, the Musical?

320x240_robertgerman

OK, don't get too excited (or appalled), yet... This actually has nothing to do with Ennis, Jack, that Willie Nelson song or anything terribly Brokeback-specific. (And frankly, if Brokeback were gonna get the musical treatment it would soooo be an opera.)

But, following the trend of all things western and cowboyish and gay getting extra attention (um, you've noticed that, right?), comes the news that Wolfe Video, a big seller of gay-themed movies and DVDs (they produce gay films, too) has created a special deal when you purchase the recently released Brokeback DVD from them. Along with the Ang Lee-directed supermovie, you'll also get the new CD-Maxi (which is evidently "Brokeback-inspired," says its site) from singer Robert German (pictured above). The premiere disc from this new artist (his stuff is very twangy, quirky, bluesy/rocky. Pretty unique...) features his debut single "Marlboro Man"--which is a no-holds-barred tale of a rancher falling hard for an urban cowboy. And naturally, there are remixes (an electro/Italo-disco one by Paradise Boy's Jefrodisiac and a way more housey one from DJ Joeski, of Roxy and Limelight fame).

Sure, it's all a bit mad. But there's something about the tune that's kind of weirdly cool.

Whatever, if ya can't fix this kind of lingering Brokeback frenzy, guess ya gotta stand it.

i found the movie to be true in some aspects, but in others i find only a sadness of loss for those who have died for what they believed in. it doesnt take a big man to take a life, but to live that life, in regards to the truth in your soul, and sharing your goodness with even those that "cast that 1st-stone".
