You Should Know: MIKA

240x360_mikashirt
MIKA: Classically trained singer/future-pop-star with a penchant for sweeping, melodic tunes. Sign us up!

Mika is a Londoner who’s got great hair, model-worthy looks, and a flair for dramatic, melody-driven pop/rock tunes.

Or, as he describes his sound... “Think Beck via Queen and Elton John and a touch of Rufus Wainwright. Would love to blab about Harry Nillson but I fear no one will know what I'm talking about... but if you do, you'll know what I mean.”

And he’s a gay. He’s gotten tons of press in the U.K. Attitude Magazine said of Mika: “Sensational (no other word for it). Distinct lashings of Queen, Prince, Nillson and Wham!”

You can hear his stuff on his MySpace page and on his own site, MikaSounds.com.

He’ll have a real release, Life in Cartoon Motion, coming to the U.S. in March 2007, but ’til then, here are some other highlights:

He was born in Beirut.
His mom’s Lebanese; dad’s American.
He was a nerd in school.
He’s performing all over the U.K. right now.
He’s got a great song that’s a tribute to Grace Kelly.
He's got another great song called “Billy Brown” that’s about a guy who leaves his wife for a gay man.
And he’s cute.

Mika is awesome. Here in Sydney Australia, we have a young gay man who is an up and coming singer/songwriter, Jeremy Brennan. His band King Casual is a breath of fresh air in the local pop world. check it out! www.myspace.com/kingcasualmusic
